Requiem
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart often sought inspiration from the works of the baroque masters, and it is not only his sacred works that reveal a fascination with baroque counterpoint. This
is most apparent in his unfinished Requiem, a work surrounded by legends. The case was similar with Jan Dismas Zelenka – in his Miserere in C minor he even goes so far as to quote verbatim Frescobaldi’s ricercar from the collection Fiori musicali. The contrast between Zelenka’s visionary musical language and the counterpoint of the early baroque period creates a fascinating musical body of emotional depth.
