Magnificat
Philipp Emanuel, with this setting of the Marian hymn, applied for the position of cantor of Leipzig as his father’s successor. Here Bach the son presents his counterpoint mastery in an impressive way as a tribute to the art of his father, while at the same time presenting the listener with the revolutionary style of „Emfindsamkeit“, which presents the new aesthetic ideals of his generation.
