Beautiful preludes, passages of unrestrained fantasy, and intricate fugues by 17th-century composers connected to Habsburg courts — artists whose works blossomed amid an unstable, postwar world filled with doubt, hope, and extraordinary artistic expressiveness. Here, the virtuoso and murderer Domenico Giovanni Antonio Pandolfi Mealli, active in Innsbruck, Madrid, and Rome, encounters the tragically slain Ignazio Albertini, a highly esteemed violin virtuoso and composer in the service of Empress Eleonora Gonzaga in Vienna, while the mysterious Nicolaus à Kempis observes everything from a safe distance in Brussels.
