Christmas Oratorio – CANCELLED
In the context of Bach’s oeuvre, the Christmas Oratorio is an extraordinary piece. It is remarkable that one of Bach’s most popular and most frequently performed compositions was not originally conceived to be performed as a whole. The six independent cantatas were first performed individually during Advent and the Christmas holidays, and the oratorio has no actual liturgical use. Nevertheless, the practice of performing this profound and festive piece of music in the form of a full-length oratorio has become an integral part of Advent and Christmas, especially in German-speaking countries.
