ABOUT THE RECORDING
The CD presents music from the operas and oratorios of Josef Mysliveček (1737-1781), recorded by Collegium 1704 under the direction of Václav Luks for Petr Václav’s historical feature film Il Boemo (2022), which was awarded six Czech Lion Awards. It features music from Mysliveček’s opera Bellerofonte(1767), which helped him to establish himself at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, the most prestigious opera house of his time, at the beginning of his career in Italy, from his opera L’Olimpiade(1778), which, thanks to its psychological sophistication, constitutes one of the finest settings of the popular libretto and one of the highlights of Mysliveček’s work in general, as well as the aria “Il caromio bene” from Armida (1779), which later became the basis for Mozart’s famous adaptation “Ridente le calma”.
Josef Mysliveček had the opportunity to compose for the greatest vocal stars of his time, and on this album, his music is once again performed by world-renowned soloists such as sopranos Simona Šaturová, Raffaella Milanesi, and Emöke Baráth, mezzo-soprano Sophie Harmsen, countertenors Philippe Jaroussky and Benno Schachtner, and tenors Krystian Adam and Juan Sancho.
