Dixit Dominus
George Frideric Handel's Dixit Dominus is one of the most impressive settings of the Old Testament psalm and is characterised by its dramatic expressiveness and virtuoso choral writing. In this concert, it is performed together with the solemn Missa Circumcisionis by Jan Dismas Zelenka. Within his impressive oeuvre of church music, with around 20 settings of the Ordinary of the Mass alone, the Missa Circumcisionis, composed in 1728, is one of his most extensive and opulently scored works.
