Stabat Mater – CANCELLED
Pre-concert talk with Václav Luks from 6.30 pm
One of the renowned composers whose life was connected with Naples was Leonardo Leo. His famous liturgical works include a setting of Miserere from 1739 that later enchanted Richard Wagner himself. In contrast to Leo, Domenico Scarlatti spent the most significant part of his life away from Naples, in Iberia. His Stabat Mater for ten voices is a briliant example of his masterful command of counterpoint and phenomenal inventiveness.
