Sonata de Mr. Händel
Little is now known about the Bohemian-born composer Stulick. His Concertino foroboe, chalumeau, bassoon, and basso continuo is remarkable for its instrumentation. There exists only one other work for this combination of instruments: a concerto by J. A. Hasse, who was successful as an opera composer in the 18th century. Similarly, the Darmstadt court conductor Ch. Graupner excelled at combining bass wood wind instruments in solo parts; his avant-garde Trio for bass chalumeau, bassoon, and basso continuo soundslike a kindofsonic experiment and is a demonstration of the witty art of instrumentation. It is not entirely clear whether F. Handel really composed “Mr. Handel’s” Sonata foroboe, bassoon, and basso continuo.
