Josef Mysliveček is one of the most interesting personalities not only in Czech, but also in world music history. He was one of the most sought-after composers in Italy in the second half of the 18th century, his operas were performed in the most important theatres and starred the greatest singing stars. He was a model for generations of composers, led by W. A. Mozart, through his unique talent and diligence; he inspired free-thinking artists with his way of life. In addition to opera, he was also an instrumental composer, both symphonic and chamber music. His collection of recent quartets is one of his exceptional works and will be performed in a modern setting on early instruments. The concert will be followed by a screening of Il Boemo, a new historical feature film about the life and work of Josef Mysliveček, directed by Petr Václav, on 19 May at the Pilotů Cinema.
