ABOUT THE RECORDING
After the successful and internationally acclaimed recordings of Bach’s Mass in B minor, Zelenka’s Missa Divi Xaverii and others, Collegium 1704 releases a CD with Handel’s oratorio Messiah, undoubtedly one of the most famous opuses in the history of music. This first complete Czech recording was made as part of the ensemble’s 2017/18 season at the Rudolfinum.

REVIEWS
I would like to say at the outset that this album is, in my opinion, one of the best that Collegium 1704 has recorded so far, perhaps even becoming his personal Mount Everest, and not only because it is a live recording. The more I listened to Mesiáš, the more I became convinced that Václav Luks brings something extremely special to the historically informed interpretation, which has become a common part of musical performance since the pioneering days of Christopher Hogwood.
Dina Šnejdarová, Harmony
Václav Luks has a lot of experience with performing large baroque church compositions in a more intimate setting. His staging of the Messiah is part of his interpretation approach, in which, thanks to his extraordinary musicianship, he succeeds in connecting the application of contemporary practice with the experiences of today’s listeners.
